CYNTHIA TYSON

Ph.D., MSW, LISW-S

CLINICAL THERAPIST & COUNSELOR

Sometimes life is hard. Sometimes things come at us at the speed of light. Sometimes the challenges we face are bigger than us as individuals. In those times, everyone deserves support.

For most of us, all the "this" that life presents us with can get in the way of our truth-telling and testimony, but it doesn't have to. I can help guide you through the work of healing, growth, and self-discovery that comes with learning to navigate your way through crisis, chaos, and suffering.

I'm Dr. Cynthia Tyson, but you can call me Cynthia. I've been doing education and healing work in my community for decades. I have a Doctor of Philosophy in Education and a Masters degrees in Social Work from The Ohio State University, and I practice as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) in the State of Ohio. I am also a National End of Life Association (NEDA) certified Death Doula. I've worked with children, adults, and families in a range of settings, including in-home hospice, hospitals, schools, college campuses, and community offices.

I ground my work in anti-oppressive and holistic approaches to therapy, which means I see each of my clients (children and adults) as a whole person - body, mind, and spirit. The most important part of working with me is the trusting and supportive relationship we form together. I integrate insight specifically from my experience working with grief, bereavement and loss across the spectrum of life experiences, end of life journeys, systemic oppression, workplace and organizational stress, cultural difference, and issues stemming from racialized stress and trauma. When you work with me, you'll notice I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities to best meet the needs of each individual in culturally specific ways. This truly individualized and relationship-centered approach will help you create long-term personal wellness and transformation.

In what can be very vulnerable and deeply personal spaces, I come alongside you and offer you a space of empathy, compassion, curiosity, and humility. No matter who you are, how old you are, what your background is, or what you've experienced in life, I will welcome you and help you feel seen and heard as we co-create possibilities for relief and change.

Let's move together at the speed of trust to support and grow your well-being and healing.
